Spring!

My favorite part of my internship is days that I get to go and take pictures outside all by myself. My other favorite part is when my coworker uses my photo's on packaging. It feels so great to have your images on packaging!

3.7.14

Friday was one of the greatest work days. I had three meetings that I had to take a part in. The last meeting I had was with the women at Orbit who have to wear the shirts. They were all nice and it was fun to go to the other building to meet with them. The second meeting was to talk about the USU and UofU Spring football games. Orbit is having a booth and we have to get ads all ready. I created a vector image idea in AI earlier and showed it to them. They all loved it. It was so fun to have them like my idea. I’m better at pictures than words.

The first meeting was with my supervisor. We talked about having me go and take photographs on temple square and city creek so they can have more beauty shots for packaging. In the summer (my real internship) I did that and it’s so great to be back and see how they’re used.

10.8.14

Saturday I went with one of my favorite photographers Jalene Taylor. I’d followed her work ever since I was fifteen. It was so fun to finally meet her. She is very nice. I enjoyed watching how she posed and guided the couple. It made me feel good about how I do! It was similar. I learned I need to pose more with the hands. She also did a few poses that I hadn’t done before. One of the poses she used a lot was when the girl curls up around the guys arm. It’s important to try and loosen up the couple. Some couples don’t loosen up much. Part of my job that I love is seeing how couples interact with one another. Every couple is so different!

The location was beautiful. I went back there with my family the next day. They had these tall tall plants that are like golden wheat. I’d always wanted to find some and there they were! Tunnel Park! It’ll get even prettier as things get green. The light when we shot the engagements wasn’t ideal, but we backlit them so that they didn’t have to look into the sun.

She let me tag along for a senior recital session also! The girl ended up being my relief society president! It was so much fun to photograph her playing her viola in a field around sunset. The light softened as the time passed and it was gorgeous! I love love love portraiture!

3.10.14

Today we’re going back to the studio for the third time. Technically the companies fourth. I had other meetings on Friday. It has been a great learning experience. Thursday I felt much more productive. I learned things that needed to be done the first day. It was great. The studio was freezing cold. I was seriously a popsicle the first half of the day. Then he took us to lunch to a place called Mo’s Bettah. It was good. The brown rice was the best rice ever. I’m not really a bbq girl, but it was fun. The restaurant was even freezing. Then we went back to the studio. We had to take action shots where the pipe was broken and muddy. The biggest stress was getting a broken pipe. They tried running it over in a car and the big machinery equipment in the warehouse. The thing that finally worked was putting dry ice in it! Smart. One of the engineers thought of it.

Inside the studio we put water in the dirt. It got messy, but we put sandbags all around the edges of the tarp so that it wouldn’t get water and mud all over. I got to pour the water on the pipe. We had to make sure the pipe wasn’t too dirty for some of the shots. These shots tell a story. Sometimes you have to pay attention to special details that you wouldn’t ever really think about. These days in the studio have reminded me of my studio photography class. There are certain angles you need. My favorite kind of photography is not having any kind of assignment except to capture the couple and beauty in this world. That is what I’m best at and what I really love.

Studio

Today we had a shoot for PVC lock, Eco lock, and tomorrow we're getting wet. All day long we took photographs of pipes, manifolds, and many other items I can't even remember the name of. We were there from nine o'clock until four thirty. His studio was very nice. It had an apartment upstairs, sitting area with couches, then the studio. The studio of really big. I'm guessing it to be about fifty by one hundred feet? I'm no expert, but it was big! There was a whole huge corner that was all white from the ground to the ceiling. Then there was a full kitchen. There was leftover soap products from a previous shoot. Then there was a large tarp with dirt on top of it. That was set up for our shoot.

To start we showed the images we wanted to get. Do you ever think about how much time goes into the photo's you see in brochures, pamphlets, and packaging? Me neither. We showed the storyboard. Then we got down to business and photographed all day. It was so cool how he had his camera hooked up to the computer so he would shoot and then go right to his computer. The art director would check out which photo's she liked out of the group of photo's taken. We would adjust the light in order to make the trench the pipe was in look larger. The shadows mattered. It's all about DETAILS. Details matter!

This blog is supposed to be about what I'm learning. I've learned my heart and soul is portrait photography. I love people. Is it ok I'm learning I want nothing to do with studio lights only? People say they love studio's because they have complete control of the light. The light looks fake. The look of studio lights still looks dark. This Saturday I'm shooting with a favorite photographer of mine Jalene Taylor. I'm super excited. It'll be good to see more side of photography.

Summer results

Orbit created a PowerPoint template. They want a universal template for everyone to use for their presentations. My Dad needed it and was looking through it. He told me about it and wondered if the images were the ones I had taken. Five out of the eight are mine! I’m so glad I’m back and can see all the ways my images are used. Many people are going to see these on PowerPoints.

Written 2.18.14 about the 17

Last night my family took a guy that works for Orbit in China to dinner. It’s amazing how blessed us Americans are. He only sees his family four times a year! Four! That’s so little time with your family! Crazy. They must all be very lonely, but he said that’s normal in China. His family is a flight away. I can’t imaging seeing my family that little. He has a wife and son. I bet people forget they’re even married. They have a higher marriage retention rate. Probably because they’re not together to fight and get on each other’s nerves for very long. Things are so different here. When we pulled up to our rental house he said it was very beautiful. We should all be grateful for what we have! If everyone would just have a positive outlook on life the majority of the time it would be a much better place for everyone.

2.18.14

Today I spotted a picture I took used! I  really love it when that happens! During the summer (my official internship time) I took photographs of flowers, vegetables, water, trees, and even dirt! They wanted a whole catalog of miscellaneous photo’s to use. It turns out it was a smart thing to take photos of dirt!

2.19.14

I took the photo of the yellow flower! I love seeing how my photos are used. I would have probably lowered the picture a little where it’s placed. I miss seeing more bokeh, but since the photo spot is so small I can understand why they would do that.

2.20.14

Today is a gorgeous day! I love driving home for lunch and getting out. The sky was blue all over with some Toy Story clouds. We rolled down the windows on the way back to work and there were birds, sparrows my dad said, in the bushes. They sounded so pretty it was fun.

1.14.14

Today is Valentine’s Day and the day has gone so quickly. I love it when time flies while I’m working. We had a meeting and I got a new project yesterday. Yesterday I found a great stock photo for packaging. I love it when I get to find stock photo’s. It’s like pinterest only work. It’s so fun to look at photo’s. Especially when they’re lifestyle photo’s.

My new project is to help order the company shirts for the year. It’s like shopping! Then I’m helping decide what journals to order. I got to go around and ask people which they liked better. I enjoy getting to talk to people.

1.13.14

The future is always on my mind. Seriously. Since I was eight. I would always wonder what I would look like. I remember picturing myself so classy and thin with gorgeous hair like the commercials. Lately I’ve been thinking about trials in life. Last night I thought to myself I don’t want too many kids because then you have to see someone you love go through hard things. I don’t want my kids to have to go through tough things. School is tough. Life is tough. Then it hit me, that’s what we’re here for. Heavenly Father doesn’t necessarily want to see us struggle. He doesn’t want to see us in pain, but that’s what it takes for us to become like him. Life is our test to eternal forever happiness.

Our test is how we act through trials. How do we handle them? Just like in DC when it says we must “endure it well.” After years and years of trying our hardest to endure it well it just kinda wears you out and you feel so drained, but you keep going. In order to be forever happy we just have to keep on going. There is a plan.

1.10.14

Speaking out is just so hard for me. We had the scorecard meeting and were having a discussion about being productive. We were talking about reacting to what people say. I just felt so stupid after making a comment. Feeling that way went right against what we were talking about. I shouldn’t react that way and laugh at my comment. I’m just not in the work frame of mind. My mind is on the family and own photography business track. I don’t really want to change that though. I’ll embrace my difference instead ha.

2.6.14

Today we had a meeting over the Digital Asset Management software’s and I was in charge of presenting it to three of my supervisors. It went great. I was really nervous, but very prepared beforehand. I had researched for weeks the different D.A.M. software’s. While I was showing different good and bad things of the software’s I didn’t feel very nervous and was able to answer their questions. I’m happy with how it went.
Afterwards I got an email from my professor at byui saying that it would be ok for me to take the PSW practicum online. I still can go to PSW!! I’m so excited for Photoshop World! It will be such a great experience. I’m so grateful to feel content. I look forward to what the future could bring.

2.5.14

It’s so crazy that this is my fifth week working here this winter. It’s going much faster than in the summer. I was only here seven weeks that time and now I’ve been here longer than half that. Today I was a hand model again. I used my left hand because moving and the winter dryness made my right hand a disaster ha ha.
I’m learning product photography isn’t too fun. It’s a pain to get a faucet to stay on a plastic brick wall. Work isn’t fun, but you learn patience and to somehow make things work.

I’ve learned living super close to work is super wonderful. It makes the day go so much faster when you get to go home and take a break for a minute. I love getting to have toast, plus the hot chocolate milk was a perfect touch to stay fuller longer. Going home makes you realize why you’re working in the first place. I love getting to see my cute spunky dog. It puts a smile on your face to get a good break.
I’m super grateful things are starting to work out for my family. I might not go back to Rexburg until Fall and keep working and take my online classes here. I feel like it’s such a waste of money to pay to live in Rexburg when you have to take online classes anyways.

set up

This is my new set up at work! There are now three desktop screens in my cubicle. People are jealous, but I honestly didn't even mind.

Technology

Wow how technology has changed.
I came across this photo at work. and laughed. I wonder what it was ever used for that had to do with irrigation.

Super Bowl 1.30.14

We got this from HR on Thursday. It was a fun little thing for employees.

I heart Orbit: 8.2013

This was such a fun image to create. My co-worker told me his idea and asked me to create it. I used Adobe Illustrator. It was tricky to figure out how to make the water look like a heart.

August

This was my favorite cover photo. I took all of the images used for this cover photo.

see 1.27.14

I’ve been looking at photo blogs for five years. That’s a long time. Sometimes I go back to some of the oldest work of one of my favorite photographers. I was obsessed with her work. Now that I’ve been doing photography for a couple years I compare my work to her old stuff. I feel confident in what I do. I’m excited to continue to do photography.
When I look at wedding photographers work I don’t really feel anything anymore. It’s all the same. I honestly don’t even know who I would hire. Maybe Susan Strippling. What makes her work so different? She’s way expensive, but her photo’s just have so much emotion. Lately all the photographers have been chopping off the heads right under the eyes. What kind of composition is that? If I were in that picture and I looked at it years later (or even now) I would be so upset that I couldn’t see the way my spouse looked at me then. Sure they also give you photo’s where you can see the eyes, but no one ever makes the same expression. I hope that fad doesn’t last long.
Engagements should show a lot about a couple. I would love it if I used a location that was actually applicable to the couple. Somewhere that had to do with our dating. Where we met, where we would always hang out, favorite date spot. I want to take them at the conference center. Go on dates to spoken word and walk around temple square. The bad part about being a photographer and dating is your always planning photographs you’d want. Or seeing if their last name would go well with your photography business. Waiting on really getting a name for your business because you hope to change your last name really soon.
There are some photographers who go on photo dates. The boyfriend goes with you on photo explorations and even will be in pictures with you. I would love that so much. I heard a proposal  story where they went on a photo exploration in the fall leaves for fun and then he purposed. So cute. Those photographs she got before that were the ones right before she was engaged.
I’m a sentimental one;) Photographs need emotion! Don’t stick with the norm. I’m leaning towards lifestyle and children photography. Children are full of character! Mainly I want to have a family of my own and take real photos of them.
I don’t think I could be a commercial photographer because they often have to leave lots of space on the outside because then the client can crop it out. I would hate that. If the original photograph isn’t close to perfect, meaning good composition and lighting, it often gets thrown in the trash. It’s hard to see potential if it doesn’t have those main elements.

Summer Time Internship

Last time I worked for Orbit the weather was so warm. Full of outdoor shoots rather than indoor product shoots. My co-worker shot this photo of me while we were setting up. I was the "wife" in the video. Showing that this mist system needs more than one person to set up.

beauty

While working I often listen to music. Sometimes I just want to sing out loud and dance ha ha. I have good taste in music. Although the number of songs I have to choose from is few, I love it. Today I got to go back through the photographs I took in the summer. It’s so fun to go back and see what I did. I really love many of the images. Summertime does have its green pretty moments. There’s always beauty all around! You just have to look for it. I’m sure where you work is also a beautiful place.

How To Install The Professional Mist Kit

This part of the video shoot was done on my first day on the job. It started with a pedicure and then in front of the camera holding a hammer. I couldn't remember the last time I used a camera.

How To Install The PVC Mist Kit

There is so much that goes into making videos. Photographs were also taken during this video shoot. Sometimes you have to be willing to go out of your comfort zone at work.

In FRONT of the camera: How To Install The Portable Mist Kit

This is one of the video's I helped with during the summer. This is me in this video. It's kinda weird to see myself in front of the camera for a change.

stock photo

Last week one of my assignments is to help find a stock photo for the thermostat packaging. It is fun to see all the photo’s out there. Stock photo’s is like pinterest for photographers. It’s fun to look through millions of photographs. I love looking at pictures. Some of them are so funny. You can tell some of them are super posed. I don’t know any couples who sit backwards on the couch to watch tv. Usually the tv is in front of them. Stock photo is a great place to put your photographs out. I’ll have to look into posting my photographs for people to use.
Sice the stock photo is for thermostat packaging I’m looking for a candid one with a dad and kids. They already have photo’s with mother’s with their sons and daughters. It’s hard to find a photo indoors of a couple that isn’t super cheesy. I’m surprised how many photo’s there are with the family on their electronics. Technology has changed so much.

sun

I'll only be in the train for two more days. I've loved getting to see the pink sky. The blue sky has been coming out from behind the clouds and it makes such a difference. I'm so excited to be down there soon and not have to commute. I'm grateful for pink skies in the morning and night!

1.17.14

Today I got to use a Canon T3i to take this photo. I may be biased, but I just love Nikon. The buttons are in much more practical spots and it’s much easier to pick your focus spot. I have been using Nikon for three years so I’m all adjusted to it. It was fun to use something new though. I also did a clip mask of this product because it’s going to be placed on a brochure. I became a pen tool expert in the summertime. I drew many graphics with the pen tool. It is a useful tool when making selections. It was fun to go in the warehouse and use the materials available. I found two white matt boards that were dirty, but I picked the cleanest spots of the boards to set the pvc on. I brought the two lights as close to the pvc as possible in order for it to be lit enough.

This morning was doughnut Friday. Everyone looks forward to it. Especially me ha ha. Those darn sweet teeth I have;) I’m finishing up my second week of my internship! I’m liking it much more than in the summertime. Everynight there’s the most gorgeous sunsets that I see from the train. I’m so grateful the days are getting longer and I get to see the sunlight. Pink skies are my favorite. The other night the moon was so huge when we got home. We move in two weeks! Hopefully we’ll find a house soon. I’m really looking forward to having a tiny commute and having time to work out!

Product

Today I photographed this mock up. In the summer I would print out all these for mock ups. They printed out on really long big sticker paper. Then I would cut them out. There were many circles to punch out after I’d put  them onto the matt board. I had fun this morning laying these all out tand adjusting the light. The metal looks pretty cool. It’s nice and shiny. Afterwards I edited off the circles that would be used to attach these watering items. Light makes such a difference to photo’s. This photo isn’t even edited!

Software

My main project while I am working at Orbit is to organize all of the media. First my assignment has been to research the DAM (digital asset management) software’s. Who would have thought there were so many different software’s that almost all do the same thing. It’s hard to decide which one would be best for the whole company. I’ve learned that so much time is wasted looking for media. This software will have all of the photos in one place for all of the marketers to have access to. I’ve learned there is so many different file formats to choose from. The engineers use solid works and there hasn’t been a DAM software found that is compatible with their solid works files.
If I was purchasing this for my own company I would choose the most inexpensive software. They seem to all do the exact same thing. The pricing isn’t up front. They have to calculate it which makes sense it depends on how many files you’ll upload and how many people need it, but there should be an estimate somewhere. There are so many details in business.

Picture

Today I took a pictures of the product below for a power point. I was reminded of the studio photography class in the spring. I never would have thought I would remember so much from that class. While I was in that class I hated it. I’m still glad I took it though. Today I went into the spa room to shoot alone. It was fun. It didn’t take me very long. I set the object on top of a white cardboard box in order to have it closer to the light. I used my Tamron 70-300 lens. I had to stand on a ladder in order to have my camera focus. I used two lights and left the lights in the room on.

Today I also was asked if I would fly up to Portland to photograph a wedding! I’m so excited! We still have to work out details, but I’m pretty sure I’ll get to go! I’m so grateful for where I am in my life now compared to where I was a year ago. Photographing weddings does has many scary things that could go wrong, but I really enjoy it while I’m in action and when I get to edit the images afterwards! I only remember being on a plane once, but I’m twenty. I could fly alone! I’d get to the airport early and be safe. It’s kinda scary carrying expensive equipment with you, but things will work out. The wedding is in april! In Oregon! Many tulip fields are all around there! It would be awesome if I could go to one to photograph. There’ll be tulips around the temple though! Gorgeous! And their house is where they’ll have the reception and it’s so pretty! So many photo ops. I think life is turning around this 2014. Hopefully the rental we checked out yesterday works out and we can find a good house quick!

You ROCK

Meetings are actually my favorite. I enjoy listening to others and it's good for me to sometimes get out of my comfort zone and speak with many people watching me. There is a monthly meeting called you ROCK. ROCK is an acronym for Recognition of your Creativity and Knowledge. It used to be called Be lean Go Green, but there was a popular demand for a revamp. Then I got to design it. After I left, a few alterations were made. It's fun to see how it evolved.
It's a fun meeting we all read off our compliments to coworkers and then they give us a gift card of some kind. Last time the Be Lean Go Green occurred on my Birthday when I was here for the summer. I chose a kneaders gift card. This time I received compliments from my boss he said, " Amazing work on the photo background project and finishing in record time." My Dad's was funny he said, "Keeping lunch conversation in-line and politically correct." My supervisor said "Being willing to help with everything including climbing ladders and setting set for shoot."
I love being helpful to others. Staying busy makes the time go much quicker.

spider webs

Today I went out to the warehouse to help set I where we will be doing the filming. I learned its important to make do with what you have. We had to figure out how to make the backdrop fill where the shot would be. I climbed up the ladder and tied the screen up. There was spider webs on the wirey rope. After when I was back organizing pictures I had the creepy crawlers. I was worried there was a spider in my hair ha ha.
My days in the light go by fast.

seven habits

For work I'm reading seven habits for highly effective people by Steven covey. It reminds me of the communication class interpersonal theory. I love reading about communication. Today I read about how we need to think if others problems instead of thinking about how others will interpret us. We need to think of how others are feeling. Don't be selfish.

thankful

When I was getting off the train today a women told me my glasses were cute and asked where I got them. I'm so grateful for kind strangers. Little did she know I've been feeling self conscious because my eyes decided to be allergic to makeup so I'm trying to let them heal by wearing none.

byui love

I think my love for byui is too strong that when I leave for good and graduate it will hurt too much. I love the classes, devotionals, wards, gym, and all the people. I love how normal it is for someone you've talked to a little on Sundays to come over to your apartment and you become good friends.
I'm normally the only girl at lunch. Usually my dad is there (ya, he helped me get the job the first time. Then they saw that I worked hard and hired me back.) It's fun getting to spend so much time with my dad. Lunch is good I listen to them talk. Work environment is much different than at byui. I want to be friends with who I work with, but it's different when I'm a girl and I'm the youngest there. Today my dad had a lunch meeting. Lunch isn't awkward when I'm there with him too. I don't want to seem anti social staying at my cubicle, but then I feel like they'd be glad I didn't come so they could talk about whatever. Instead I stayed in my cubicle and emailed a question to my intern professor and then posted a wedding on my photography blog
I miss my byui friends... or people my age who I can talk to normally. Work is work.

big product

One of the big products was the yard enforcer. I created this image in the summer knowing I wouldn't be there during Christmastime. It was never used on social media, but one of the owners of the company loved it and got a really good laugh. The product is to keep un wanted animals out of your yard. This was one of my favorite graphics created.

product photography

Orbit hires the same photographers to do their beauty shots and product shots. I get to work with them and learn from them. Yesterday in the office they are working in a poster. The photo is supposed to be blown up huge, but the pictures are all overexposed. I get to see every side of the spectrum. I see the photos shot and then being used in packaging. I never realized how often pictures are used. Photography is a good career if you get your name out there and give quality work.
It's so important to give clients your best. If you have too many off days a client might find someone else to hire.
Commercial photography is a good area. The photographer spent all day shooting and then gives the client a disk without editing or cropping anything. He left extra space that the client could decide what to display.
I've learned how important it is to be prepared and do your best.

soft box

Today was my second day working for orbit the second round. This time I have my own cubicle. I love it so much. Today I put up a few pictures to make it my own. It's so nice to be where the lights are on. The day goes much faster.
The project I'm working on now is getting all of the photos ready to be posted on the photo software. I go through each image and make the background transparent. Today I did photos of metal objects. Metal is the hardest subject to photograph. It's like a mirror and it is so tricky to not get other objects in it. I learned that you don't have to be a perfect photographer in order to get work and be hired. I'm continually reminded of what I've learned in my photography classes at byui.

Here's a picture of my cute cubicle and the commute weather tonight. I'm grateful the front runner has wifi!

entertainment

Commuting three hours a day was hard. Especially when you're not really a morning person and thrive for light. You find your entertainment though. One day we were almost to our stop on the way home. After sitting all day I feel pretty antsy to just get home at the end of the day. I remember hearing a young married guys conversation on the phone. I was laughing all night. Maybe I thought it was really funny because I was looking for anything. I overheard him on the phone saying. "I'm twenty five! She can't tell me what to do." then "Ya, she told me to go to bed..." "I'm a twenty five year old, I'll do what I want." I found it so funny. He must have been talking about his wife. I frequently learned things I should and shouldn't do as a wife.
Lunch breaks. I was usually the only female in the lunch room. All of the men would tell situations where they didn't think before they speak or things they shouldn't tell their wives. I found their stories very funny and entertaining. If you've heard the song pocketful of poetry by mindy gledhill that's exactly how I feel. After sitting in front of a desk all day I'll take any entertainment I can get. Men say and do such dumb things sometimes ha ha. (I know women do the same!) One of the guys had his wife mowing the lawn when she was very pregnant and the neighbor paid another neighborhood kid to mow it ha ha ha. Then if the husband cooks on the weekends he should tell the wife to get a weekend job. (that wasn't very nice! the wife is taking care of kids, cooks, cleans, and does plenty. The women is the nurturer) It's so nice of the husband to cook on weekends! Another funny oops was the family was waiting for the dad to bbq and he told the wife "you could bbq too." Ha ha barbequing is just something men should do. In all the movies and everything it's always the men barbequing. There's fire under there. Women leave the fire to the men ha ha. They love it! One more... one of the guys wives wanted to make a craft for their date night. Bad idea! Ha ha. In the future I'll keep my crafts small... except for house fixing stuff. I wouldn't call it a date though. Men+crafting=bad.
It's a good learning experience to see how the other side of how someday things will be. I learned things I should and shouldn't do to make things easier for my spouse. After hearing them talk makes me realize I should brush off offensive things people say because they're not really trying to offend.

before the sun

My internship is located an hour and a half away from my home. Each morning I woke up at five-thirty in the morning! Even in the summer that's just before the sun comes up. Too early. We would leave the house at six-thirty after making our lunch and eating breakfast. Breakfast at six a.m.? Ya, way too early to eat. My stomach was always growling like crazy by ten a.m.. In the quiet "cave" where you could hear people breathing, my stomach could definitely be heard.
Each morning we would drive to the station and then ride the front runner for an hour. Providers sacrifice so much. I learned that I really want my future spouse to love his job. I rode the frontrunner with a whole bunch of providers. They make such sacrifice to provide for their families. I hope that they enjoy what they do.

the cave

During the summer I worked in the room that everyone in the office called the "cave". It was the design room. I was in there with three other designers. It was the quietest room in the office. You could hear everyone breathing. It was very rare anyone would ever ask any questions of each others personal lives. The only time I can remember anyone every talking about something other than work was when talked about the new comic book movie. Talking in that room was pretty rare. They were all very nice to me. I loved the smell of my co-workers daily morning drink.
One of the reasons everyone called that room the cave was because the lights were always off. Our computers were twenty four inch macs. It was such a big screen! Bigger than the TV we had at home. The screen was way too bright for me in the dark room. I turned my brightness down as low as it could go in hopes that I could protect my eyes. I couldn't understand why the lights were kept off, but of course as the newby I wouldn't be the one to turn the light on even though I was almost always the first one there every morning. I wanted them to like me and didn't want to throw off their groove. There was a day I was the last one in the "cave" so I decided to turn on the light. I sat back down at my computer and it was just like a mirror. Then I realized that was why the light was always kept off.
I learned to make the best of a work environment I wouldn't prefer and someday you'll realize the reasons why the conditions are that way.

social media

As an intern in the summer one of my jobs was to create images for the social media pages. The image below were all taken and created by me. I learned how to create an image from scratch. I was taught how to create textures and clipping masks. Commercial photography is much different from portrait photography. Portrait photography will forever be my favorite type of photography. A sprinkler part, tomato, flower, etc. doesn't make your heart melt like a photograph of a child.
The only fonts I used while working there were the corporate fonts purchased. Companies have to purchase fonts to use commercially. Someday I'll need to purchase a font for my own photography business. It's important to be uniform. Continuity is important for a company.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my fonts being used on a professional business page that is seen by thousands.

I took and image similar to the photo above without water droplets on it. Orbit is a irrigation company. Without water Orbit wasn't represented well. It sometimes takes two tries to get a usable image. I took a water bottle and photographed the leaves after sprinkling water on them myself.

i.k. stands for intern kaylie

During the seven week break I worked as a Photography and Design intern at Orbit Irrigation. It was such a great learning experience. As I worked there I helped out on mist video shoots. My first day on the job one of my first assignments was to go get a manicure. I was a hand model for the instruction shots.
Blaire Kunz is the professional photographer for orbit. He photographs the beauty shots for the main pictures of the packaging shots. He told me about his photography experience in New York. He was working pretty much twenty four seven. Since he was starting out he worked under a professional and shot weddings every weekend. I learned that success takes so much hard work.
Spring semester 2013 I took the class Studio Photography from Brother Brown. Brother Brown would always tell us about the real world of photography. He would always say "If it will go wrong it will". I always just figured Brother Brown was just a pessimist, but then I learned it really was true. We need to be prepared and plan ahead.
An entire day was spent getting beauty shots of two of the homes. Mist is very hard to capture. Brother Brown always said "get it right in the camera" that really was ingrained in me that semester. We couldn't get the mist to show up in photo's the first day so we had to go back the next day. We planned the day we were supposed to get things done. No photographer is perfect. None. No one in this world is perfect. No matter how long we've been doing photography we'll still find things that need improvement. We planned and went back the next day and the right shots were taken. If we would have been ready two hours earlier the first day the timing would have been right.
It was a great learning experience. I'll be making more posts about working at Orbit in the summer. I'm working back at Orbit now. Today was my first day back.

During our video shoot week I photographed on the side. This image was used for blog posts on the company blog.
